Setting Up Your Atmosphere Correctly

Working or living in a bad surrounding or atmosphere can cause stress and will not allow you to function in an optimal manner. Take some time to evaluate your atmosphere does it need a face lift?

The following tips can help you be more at peace with a proper atmosphere.

Get Rid of Clutter Some people are natural pack rats. They save everything. No matter how much space they have they find more to clutter up that space. But, keeping a cluttered environment encroaches on your psychological wellbeing. The worst part about it is most of the items you keep you never use again.

Organize Your Files Our lives have become more paperless. However, you still have important documents that you need to store in such a way that you can retrieve them quickly. If you fumble for documents, this is going to take away from your productivity. Hard copy documents are not the only filing you should consider. Virtual documents are growing, and you need an easy way to retrieve those as well. More importantly, you should make sure you have proper backups of all of your documents in the case of loss.

Align Yourself with the Right People When you have good people working with you, whatever the task, you will achieve balance as you will get what you need to get done. Having the wrong people or not having any people when there is a need, will have the opposite effect. If you are spending time learning what others could do or doing tasks that can be delegated, you are wasting time. Many people worry about the costs of bringing others onboard, but they should be more concerned about the cost of not having the right people. You have to think about it long-term, as an investment. You will be way ahead of your competition who don’t practice this.

Ask People You Associate with If They Are Happy There is nothing worse than having a well-oiled machine with the right people, only to have several of them approach you with their letters of resignation. You need to keep on top of whether they are happy and do everything you can to make that happen for them. Some people will leave for other reasons, and there isn’t much you can do about that. But, for all the others, try to set the environment, so they don’t want to leave.

Don’t Let Damages Stay for Too Long If your atmosphere is in need of repairs, make sure you handle them quickly. If you let them go for too long, you give the impression of not caring about your surroundings. This can increase stress for everyone involved.

Every quarter find two items that you can add (or subtract) from your environment based on feedback from others. Don’t always focus on big items. Sometimes, small items can make big impacts. For instance, it may make employees lives easier if they had direct online access to training materials instead of bulky manuals, etc.
